Faculty and Staff Parking Permits
In order to park on campus, UCLA employees must purchase a parking permit.
Smart Commute Options
Space is limited on campus, if you are interested in an alternate form of transportation here are some convenient and sustainable mobility options available to employees at UCLA.
- How to Get a Parking Permit
Your Commute Coordinator is responsible for the administration of your parking needs. Contact your Commute Coordinator to make your parking arrangements. If you do not know who your Commute Coordinator is, please send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org. UCLA employees who do not have a regular UCLA parking permit qualify for daily discounted parking which can be purchased online through the Bruin ePermit Portal.
Employees Appointed at 43.75% Time or More
UCLA faculty and staff, career or limited appointment, who are benefits eligible and employed at least 43.75% time in UC Path, are eligible to purchase a monthly auto-renew, quarterly, short-term, or daily parking permit.
Employees Appointed Below 43.75%
UCLA faculty and staff employed below 43.75% are eligible for quarterly, short-term, or daily parking permits only.
Faculty and Staff with a DP Placard
Faculty and staff with accessible needs who have a valid parking permit may park in any legal parking stall when displaying their DMV-issued DP placard/license plate. They will need to display their DP placard/license plate at all times when parking in our structures. This does not include gated parking structures (e.g. Medical Plaza, STR 37, etc.)
Please note: You may not park in red zones, loading zones, or areas not specifically marked as parking stalls.
UCLA students employed by the University are not eligible for employee parking through payroll deduction unless they are employed at 100% time, and are eligible for quarterly or short-term permits only. Students may also apply for parking through the student parking application process.
- Clean Fuel Vehicle Permit Requests
Only Zero Emission Vehicles (ZEV’s) are eligible for a UCLA Clean Fuel Permit. Cars that meet these requirements are 100% battery electric or hydrogen fuel cell electric. To determine if your vehicle is a Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV), visit the California Air Resources Board website and check that your vehicle's “Exhaust Standard” is listed as “ZEV”.
When requesting a Clean Fuel permit through the Bruin ePermit System, you will need to submit a copy of your current vehicle registration. If you are not the registered owner, you must also provide proof of insurance. The insurance card must have the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) and permit holder's name on it.
- Permit Types
UCLA Transportation issues a variety of permit types that grant specific parking privileges. You may also download the Parking Privileges PDF for more details and to keep for future reference. If your assigned parking lot or structure is full, please contact the Transportation office.
Yellow (Non-Reserved) Permit
Available to all UCLA employees who are eligible for parking. It allows the permit holder to park in a specifically assigned parking area and generally does not permit mobility to alternate parking on campus prior to 4:30 p.m. weekdays.
Blue (Mobility) Permit
Facilitates a high level of mobility on campus. This permit is for UCLA employees who, by the nature of their work, are required to move frequently from one area of campus to another.
Valid the same day it is purchased until 8:00 a.m. the following day. Daily permits can be purchased online through the Bruin ePermit Portal.
Convenient for employees who work evening hours and weekends. Night Permits are valid 4:30 p.m. - 8:00 a.m. on weekdays and all day on Saturday and Sunday. Night Permits can be purchased online through the Bruin ePermit Portal.
Valid from noon Friday until 8:00 a.m. Monday morning in most yellow stalls in numbered parking areas. Weekend Permits can be purchased online through the Bruin ePermit Portal.
X (Preferred) Permit
Allows the highest level of mobility. It is intended for faculty and staff who frequently need to move about campus. An X permit application can be sent by your Commute Coordinator to the Transportation office.
- Carpool Permits
Eligible faculty and staff can apply for a two, three, or four person carpool. The primary lot assignment will be determined by the Departmental Commute Coordinator of the primary permit holder’s department.
When requesting a carpool permit through the Bruin ePermit System, you and all of the members in your carpool must submit a request.
• Employee carpools must have at least two (2) UCLA employees working at least 43.75% time.
• All employee members of a carpool must be working at least 43.75% time.
• The primary carpool member must submit a "2, 3, or 4 Person Carpool Primary Permit Holder" request.
• Carpool members must submit a "2, 3, or 4 Person Carpool Member" request.
• The special permit request will not be reviewed until all carpool members have submitted their requests.
• The primary work location of each employee must be on the UCLA campus during the duration of the parking permit issued.
• Carpool members must ride together at least three (3) days per week, Monday through Friday, and live in areas that facilitate a logical commute pattern.
• Carpools can be issued on a monthly auto-renew or quarterly basis depending upon eligibility; quarterly carpools are not automatically renewed and a new request must be submitted each quarter. NOTE: Staff/Faculty carpools that include student members will only be eligible for quarterly permits.
• One employee is designated the primary permit holder.

- Payments, Cancellations, and Refunds
Faculty and staff members have several payment options for parking fees including automatic payroll deduction. Payment options include the following:
• Payroll deduction (monthly auto-renew permits only)
• Check, e-check, money order, or cashier's check payable to "UC Regents"
• Credit card (Visa, Mastercard, Discover, and American Express)
• BruinCard (only available when paid in-person at the Transportation lobby) Temporarily unavailable.

Note: University of California Policy, PPSM-30
Employees on pay status are not eligible to receive parking permits or daily parking that is charged to University funds. By paying for an employee's parking, the department would, in essence, be providing the individual with additional compensation.
Instructions to Return/Cancel an ePermit
University employees must cancel their parking upon the termination of employment with the University. Failure to cancel a parking permit gives Commute Coordinators the authority to request that the permit be canceled. Once employment has been terminated, permits are no longer valid for parking. This is true even if the parking has been paid for.
Your permit cancellations are effective immediately at the time of return.
• How to Return/Cancel Your ePermit
Parking permit fees are prorated from the permit’s date of issuance. Prorated refunds for quarterly permits are calculated from the date of cancellation. There are no refunds for daily permits, short-term permits (7-day and 30-day), or monthly auto-renew permits.
- Cross-Parking at Other UCLA Parking Structures
UCLA faculty and staff permit holders may cross-park in an alternate lot or structure on campus according to the privileges of your permit type. Campus cross-parking is available for permit holders Monday through Friday from 4:30 p.m.- 8:00 a.m., and all-day on weekends and University holidays. To see where your permit is valid during cross parking hours, please refer to the Parking Permit Privileges (PDF) for details.
1-Day Cross Parking Permit
If you require parking in a lot or structure not included in the privileges of your permit, you can obtain a 1-Day cross-parking permit at no cost through the Bruin ePermit Portal, excluding Night and Weekend permit holders. The 1-Day cross-parking permit is valid for same-day use only. Faculty and staff may receive a maximum of five (5) cross-parking permits per quarter.
If You Have a Medical Appointment on Campus
Faculty and staff permit holders who have medical appointments on campus can cross-park in Medical Plaza or Jules Stein, Monday through Friday, for a maximum of three (3) hours from 7:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.
Employees must pay full price on Saturday and Sunday at the self-service pay stations.
Before exiting, press the call button to reach an attendant. Present your BruinCard and parking ticket. BruinCard and ID number will be required for permit verification. Employees with Night or Weekend Permits must pay the daily rate.
Please note: Yellow permits for areas 1, 8, 9, and 18 are not valid to cross-park in Jules Stein or Medical Plaza.
