UCLA BruinBikeSmart Overview

College campuses generate considerable amounts of traffic in a variety of modes including cars, trucks, and buses. With the bold sustainability goals and lack of space for additional parking, UCLA Transportation supports bicycling as a great way to get to campus.

As UCLA’s bicycling community grows, it is important to keep informed about how to best navigate campus legally and safely.

What is it?

At the discretion of UCPD, bicyclists are given the opportunity to complete the online BruinBikeSmart training and pay a $75 course fee instead of a full citation. Violators may utilize the BruinBikeSmart Program course once every 12 months.

California Vehicle Code states every person riding a bicycle on a street or highway has the same rights and responsibilities as a driver of a motor vehicle. Be advised that all on-campus properties, affiliated off-campus properties and local community traffic regulations are strictly enforced. You may be cited for running stop signs, riding at an unsafe speed, riding on the wrong side of the road or on sidewalks, not having legal brakes, etc.
